WEEK 11 – DAG 1

Ochtendvoeding

Openbaring 21:11-12 (...) Haar lichtglans was aan zeer kostbaar gesteente gelijk, als een kristalheldere

jaspissteen. Zij had een grote en hoge muur (...).

Openbaring 21:18 En de bouwstof van haar muur was jaspis; en de stad was zuiver goud, aan zuiver glas

gelijk.

Openbaring 4:3 En die daarop zat, was van aanzien een jaspis- en sardiussteen gelijk (...).
God op Zijn troon ziet er als jaspis uit, en de hele muur van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem is met jaspis gebouwd. Het eerste fundament van de muur is ook van jaspis. Volgens Openbaring 21:11 is jaspis een "zeer kostbaar gesteente (...) kristalhelder". De kleur moet donkergroen zijn, wat op de rijkdom van het leven duidt.
Gods verschijning als jaspis betekent dat Zijn verschijning leven in al haar rijkdom is. Jaspis is de verschijning
van God, en zal ook de verschijning van de heilige stad, het Nieuwe Jeruzalem, zijn (vs. 11). De gehele stad
ziet er in haar verschijning hetzelfde uit als God.

Het centrum van de stad is God op de troon met een
verschijning als jaspis en de omtrek van de stad is haar muur, die met jaspis gebouwd is. Dit betekent dat de
hele stad vanuit haar centrum tot de omtrek een uitdrukking van dé God van leven in Zijn rijkdom is. (CWWL, 1984, deel 3, “God’s New Testament Economy,” blz. 441)

Lezen voor vandaag

Openbaring 21:12 vertelt ons dat de muur groot en hoog was voor afzondering tot God en voor de
bescherming van Gods belang. De hoogte van de muur is honderdvierenveertig el. Een el is ongeveer achttien
inch, dus op basis daarvan is de muur tweehonderdzestien voet hoog. Openbaring vertelt ons ook dat de muur
twaalfduizend stadiën lang is. Aangezien een stadion ongeveer zeshonderd voet is, is de muur waarschijnlijk
duizenddriehonderdvierenzestig mijl lang. Dit is ongeveer de afstand tussen Los Angeles en Dallas. De muur
van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem is minimaal zeven keer hoger dan de Chinese muur. Onze grote muur, die we in het
boek Openbaring zien, is met jaspis gebouwd en deze jaspis is helder als kristal (vs. 11). Onze grote muur is
doorzichtig. Geen enkele muur op aarde kan met de muur van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem vergeleken worden.
De muur van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem sluit zeven aspecten in. De muur sluit transformatie, bouw, het
beeld van God, de uitdrukking van God, het getuigenis van Jezus, afzondering en bescherming in. Een muur
scheidt altijd een bepaalde ruimte van een andere ruimte af. Een muur beschermt ook wat er in zit tegen alle
soorten negatieve en slechte dingen.
De fundamenten van de muur dragen de namen van de twaalf apostelen. Elke apostel wordt door een
edelsteen afgebeeld. De naam Petrus betekent 'een steen'. Een steen is iets dat door God geschapen is, maar
niet getransformeerd is. Alle edelstenen zijn getransformeerd. Petrus was eerst een steen, maar hij werd
uiteindelijk jaspis, het eerste fundament van het Nieuwe Jeruzalem. De muur zelf is jaspis en het eerste
fundament van de muur is ook jaspis. Petrus was eerst een steen, maar in het Nieuwe Jeruzalem is hij een
jaspissteen, de eerste laag van het fundament van de muur. Dit duidt op transformatie.
De muur is niet alleen maar met natuurlijke materialen gebouwd die door God geschapen zijn, maar
de muur is met getransformeerde bestanddelen gebouwd. We zijn allemaal Gods oude schepping, maar God
heeft ons in Christus geplaatst om van ons Zijn nieuwe schepping te maken. We waren allemaal natuurlijke
wezens, maar we zijn getransformeerd van de oude schepping tot de nieuwe schepping in Christus (2 Kor.
5:17). In het Nieuwe Jeruzalem zullen er geen Chinezen, Amerikanen, Spanjaarden, Mexicanen, Japanners,
Koreanen, Fransen, Duitsers of wat voor cultuur of ras dan ook zijn. We zullen allemaal volledig
getransformeerd zijn. Ik geloof dat zelfs onze kleur getransformeerd zal zijn. We zullen dan allemaal 'groen'
zijn. We zullen allemaal jaspis zijn! We zullen één volk zijn met één kleur: 'groen'! Alle verschillende kleuren
en alle verschillende culturen zullen verslonden worden door het rijke goddelijke leven van de Drie-enige God.

WEEK 11 – DAY 1

Morning Revival

Revelation 21:11-12 (…) Its brightness was like a very precious stone, like a crystal clear

jasper stone. She had a great and high wall (...).

Revelation 21:18 And the material of its wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, in clear glass

Revelation 4:3 And he that sat thereon looked like unto a jasper and sardius stone . . .

God on His throne looks like jasper, and the whole wall of New Jerusalem is built with jasper. The first foundation of the wall is also made of jasper. According to Revelation 21:11, jasper is a "very precious stone . . . crystal clear." The color should be dark green, which indicates the richness of life.
God's appearance as jasper means that His appearance is life in all its richness. Jasper is the apparition
of God, and shall also be the appearing of the holy city, New Jerusalem (v. 11). The entire city
looks the same as God in her appearance.

The center of the city is God enthroned with one
appearance like jasper, and the circumference of the city is its wall, which is built with jasper. This means that the
whole city from its center to its periphery is an expression of the God of life in His riches. (CWWL, 1984, vol. 3, "God's New Testament Economy," p. 441)

Todays reading

Revelation 21:12 tells us that the wall was great and high for separation from God and from the
protection of God's interest. The height of the wall is one hundred and forty-four cubits. A cubit is about eighteen
inches, so based on that, the wall is two hundred and sixteen feet high. Revelation also tells us that the wall
twelve thousand furlongs long. Since a stadium is about six hundred feet, the wall is likely
one thousand three hundred and sixty-four miles long. This is approximately the distance between Los Angeles and Dallas. The wall
of the New Jerusalem is at least seven times higher than the Great Wall of China. Our great wall, which we in it
book of Revelation is built with jasper, and this jasper is clear as crystal (v. 11). Our great wall is
transparent. No wall on earth can compare to the wall of the New Jerusalem.
The wall of the New Jerusalem includes seven aspects. The wall closes transformation, construction, it
image of God, the expression of God, the testimony of Jesus, seclusion and protection. A wall
always separates a certain space from another space. A wall also protects what's inside from all
kinds of negative and bad things.
The foundations of the wall bear the names of the twelve apostles. Each apostle is by one
gemstone pictured. The name Peter means 'a stone'. A stone is something created by God, but
has not been transformed. All gems have been transformed. Peter was a stone at first, but he became
finally jasper, the first foundation of the New Jerusalem. The wall itself is jasper and the first
foundation of the wall is also jasper. Peter was a stone at first, but in the New Jerusalem he is one
jasper stone, the first layer of the foundation of the wall. This indicates transformation.
The wall is not just built with natural materials created by God, but
the wall is built with transformed components. We are all God's ancient creation, but God
has placed us in Christ to make us His new creation. We were all natural
creatures, but we have been transformed from the old creation to the new creation in Christ (2 Cor.
5:17). In the New Jerusalem there will be no Chinese, Americans, Spaniards, Mexicans, Japanese,
Koreans, French, Germans or whatever culture or race you are. We will all completely
have been transformed. I believe even our color will be transformed. We'll all be 'green' then
are. We will all be jasper! We will be one people with one color: 'green'! All different colors
and all different cultures will be devoured by the rich divine life of the Triune God.

Het is gebleken dat er in de beeldvorming van mensen, door mensen, heel erg veel misbruik gemaakt is. Dit is onderandere geopenbaard door de oud-burgemeester van Den Haag, met de naam Wim Deetman. Je kunt hier via wikipedia over lezen: Willem Joost Deetman is een Nederlands voormalig politicus en bestuurder. Hij is onder meer minister en staatssecretaris van Onderwijs en voorzitter van de Tweede Kamer geweest. Van 1996 tot 2008 was hij burgemeester van Den Haag

It is visible that a lot of abuse has been made in the image of people, by people. This has been revealed, among others, by the former mayor of The Hague, named Wim Deetman. ‘Ze zijn daar de weg kwijt!’

DEN HAAG - Oud-politicus, oud-minister en oud-burgemeester van Den Haag Wim Deetman is er duidelijk over: de cultuur van zwijgen en toedekken over seksueel misbruik in de katholieke kerk moet worden doorbroken. 'In het kerkelijk bestuur heerste een attitude van toedekken, je hangt je vuile was niet buiten'. 'Mensen moeten niet langer zwijgen'. 'Als alles open ligt kun je de ander in de ogen kijken.'

Hij zegt dat in het oktobernummer van het maandblad Kerk in Den Haag.

Deetman, nog steeds actief in de Kloosterkerk in Den Haag, deed in 2010 en 2011 onderzoek naar seksueel misbruik van minderjarigen in de Rooms-Katholieke kerk in Nederland.

Eén van de kritiekpunten van zijn commissie was dat de kerk wist van het misbruik en veel te weinig deed voor slachtoffers. Deetman vindt dat de katholieke kerk wereldwijd het Nederlandse voorbeeld zou moeten volgen om nog iets van de eigen boodschap overeind te houden.

'De paus roept op aangifte te doen van misbruik en tegelijkertijd wordt in Australië gesteld dat het biechtgeheim gehandhaafd wordt voor dienaren van de kerk. Dat is dus een vrijbrief. Ze zijn daar de weg kwijt!'

'U kunt me wat!'

Deetman geeft geen interviews meer over misbruik in de Nederlandse kerkprovincie, 'Alles is wel zo'n beetje gezegd.' Maar voor het Haagse kerkelijk maandblad maakt hij toch een uitzondering. Vanwege Den Haag waar hij burgemeester is geweest en waar hij nog steeds kerkelijk betrokken is. En ook vanwege de actualiteit. De blijvende stroom slecht nieuws uit bijvoorbeeld de VS, Australië en Duitsland.

Veel slachtoffers hebben onherstelbare schade opgelopen. 'Er zijn er van wie het leven verwoest is, dat moeten we goed beseffen'. 'Dan ben je er niet met excuses, vergeving en gebed'. Als dat het enige antwoord is, vergroot je als kerk niet je geloofwaardigheid. De slachtoffers zeggen dan: U kunt me wat!'

THE HAGUE - Former politician, former minister and former mayor of The Hague Wim Deetman is clear: the culture of silence and covering up about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church must be broken. 'There was an attitude of covering up in the church council, you don't hang your dirty laundry out'. 'People should stop being silent'. "When everything is open you can look the other person in the eye."

He says that in the October issue of the monthly magazine Kerk in The Hague.

Deetman, still active in the Kloosterkerk in The Hague, conducted research in 2010 and 2011 into the sexual abuse of minors in the Roman Catholic Church in the Netherlands.

One of the criticisms of his committee was that the church knew about the abuse and did far too little for victims. Deetman believes that the Catholic Church worldwide should follow the Dutch example in order to keep some of its own message alive.

The pope calls for the abuse to be reported and at the same time it is stated in Australia that the secrecy of confession is maintained for servants of the church. So that's a license. They've lost their way there!'

"You can tell me much more, but I don't believe it!"

Deetman no longer gives interviews about abuse in the Dutch church province, 'Everything has pretty much been said.' But he makes an exception for the Hague ecclesiastical monthly magazine. Because of The Hague where he was mayor and where he is still involved in the church. And also because of the current situation. The constant stream of bad news from, for example, the US, Australia and Germany.

Many victims have suffered irreparable damage. "There are those whose lives have been destroyed, we must realize that." 'Then you are not there with apologies, forgiveness and prayer'. If that is the only answer, then as a church you are not increasing your credibility. The victims then say: "You can tell me much more, but I don't believe it!'

God is geen mens en willen we leiding geven, kunnen we onszelf het beste gedragen als slaven in volkomen nederigheid die ons als voorbeeld gegeven werd. Overweldigende kerktorens met luide orgels of zeer versterkte muziek, staan nergens in de Bijbel beschreven.

Heel veel kan gebruikt en zelfs misbruikt worden tot een vorm van ijdelheid die zeker niet in de Heer zal zijn, ook al schrijf je met reuze grote letters BLOED VAN JEZUS op je voorhoofd, het kan allemaal pure ijdelheid zijn.

God is not a man, and if we want to lead, we should conduct ourselves as slaves in the complete humility that was given to us as an example. Overwhelming church towers with loud organs or highly amplified music are not described anywhere in the Bible.

A lot can be used and even abused to a form of vanity that will certainly not be in the Lord, even if you write BLOOD OF JESUS on your forehead in huge letters, it can all be pure vanity.

EINDTIJD

De eindtijd wordt op verschillende manieren uit gelegd. Het wordt via wikipedea ook aangeduid als een belangrijke rol die iets dus in een verhaal moet hebben. Men heeft het hier zelfs over de eindbeweging waar dus "de beweging" van een heel groot belang is.

In mijn persoonlijke opvatting is de beweging van het verhaal inderdaad ook heel erg van een heel groot belang.

De beweging leidt de mens immers naar het doel.

En dat werkelijke doel zal voor mij persoonlijk natuurlijk altijd de WERKELIJKE LIEFDE inhouden.

In het kort wijst het verhalen-spel "Narrathon" van mijn kennis Ewald Theunisse natuurlijk ook heel erg duidelijk naar de belangrijkheid van de eindkaart.

De eindkaart die dus ook als slotzin een belangrijke mate van tevredenheid met zich mee zal kunnen dragen en waarmee men dus werkelijk in evenwicht kan geraken.

De eindtijd, het einde der tijden,

de laatste dagen of eschaton

is een voorstelling van de laatste tijdsperiode (het einde) van alle menselijke geschiedenis.

De leer over de eindtijd heet eschatologie.

Bewegingen waarin de eindtijd een belangrijke rol in hun theologie heeft, worden eindtijdbeweging genoemd.

De abrahamitische religies kennen een lineaire kosmologie waarin eindtijdscenario's bestaan uit thema's rondom grote omwentelingen en verlossing.

In het jodendom verwijst de eindtijd vaak naar het laatste stuk van de wereldgeschiedenis, waarin de Joodse diaspora wordt bijeengebracht, de Messias verschijnt, de "komende wereld" komt en de doden opstaan.

In het christendom duidt de eindtijd vaak de Grote Verdrukking aan, die aan de wederkomst van Jezus voorafgaat.

In de islam wordt de Oordeelsdag voorafgegaan door de verschijning van al-Mahdi.

Met de hulp van Isa (Jezus) zal hij Dajjal vervolgens overwinnen.

Eschatologie (van het Griekse τὰ ἔσχατα, ta és-chata, "de laatste dingen", en λόγος, lógos, "woord" en in bredere zin "leer") is een theologisch begrip dat de "leer van de laatste dingen" betekent. In christelijke, joodse en islamitische religies verwijst de term naar het einde van de wereld, de eindtijd of de “Vier Laatste Dingen” (Latijn “Quatuor Novissima”): Dood, Laatste Oordeel, Hemel en Hel. De geloofsgemeenschappen waarin qua eschatologie en algemene religieuze beleving de overtuiging centraal staat dat de menselijke geschiedenis zich in de eindtijd bevindt, worden eindtijdbeweging genoemd.

Christendom

Het woord eschatos wordt in het Nieuwe Testament gebruikt om het einde aan te duiden dat met de wederkomst van Jezus zal beginnen. Jezus belooft zijn volgelingen bij zijn hemelvaart dat hij zal terugkeren, en dat dan alle leed geleden zal zijn. Hij zal komen om te oordelen de levenden en de doden, zeggen christenen in hun geloofsbelijdenis. Hiermee wordt verwezen naar de woorden van Jezus als hij spreekt over de Dag des oordeels.

In het Bijbelboek Openbaring wordt een profetie van Johannes beschreven, die door de meeste kerken wordt uitgelegd als een voorspelling van het einde der tijden.

Islam

Binnen de islam kent men ook een sterk geloof in het einde der tijden.

Moslims geloven dat de profeet Isa (Jezus) en/of de Mahdi, volgelingen van de Profeet Mohammed, naar de aarde terug zullen keren op een door Allah gekozen moment. De Mahdi zal alle oorlogen stoppen en er zal een tijdperk van vrede aanbreken.

In het bijzonder de sjiitische moslims geloven sterk in de komst van de Mahdi, die recht zal spreken over alle personen op aarde. Zij geloven dat alleen voor de rechtgeaarde moslims plek is in de hemel. Soennieten daarentegen zijn van mening dat alleen Allah daarover mag oordelen

De laatste dag van de 13e baktun uit de Mayakalender (13.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 3 Kankin) wordt door een aantal wetenschappers gelijkgesteld met de gregoriaanse datum 21 of 23 december 2012. Sommigen gingen ervan uit dat op een van die dagen een apocalyptisch einde aan de wereld zou komen. Op internet wemelde het van de websites met onheilspellende teksten over dit onderwerp.

Volgens aardwetenschapper Andreas Fuls berust het 2012-fenomeen op een misrekening en zou de 13 baktun pas stoppen op 21, 22 of 23 december 2220.

Jodendom

Joodse eschatologie heeft betrekking op gebeurtenissen die zullen plaatsvinden in het einde der dagen, volgens de Thora en het joodse denken. Dit omvat de terugkeer van de verbannen diaspora, de komst van een Joodse Messias, een leven na de dood, en de opleving van de doden (tsadikim).

In het jodendom wordt de eindtijd meestal het 'einde der dagen' genoemd (aḥarit ha-yamim, אחרית הימים), een zin die meerdere keren in de Thora verschijnt. Het idee van een Messiaanse tijd heeft een prominente plaats in het joodse denken en wordt gezien als onderdeel van het einde der dagen.

In het jodendom is de belangrijkste tekstuele bron voor het geloof in het einde der dagen en de bijbehorende gebeurtenissen de Hebreeuwse Bijbel. In Deuteronomium 28-31 staat dat de Joden niet in staat zullen zijn om de wetten van Mozes in het Land van Israël te houden en daarom verbannen zullen worden, maar uiteindelijk verlost. De boeken van de Hebreeuwse profeten handelen over het einde der dagen.

In de rabbijnse literatuur hebben de rabbijnen deze verhalen uitgewerkt en worden de profetieën uit de Hebreeuwse Bijbel, samen met de mondelinge wet en de (betekenis van de) rabbijnse tradities, uitgelegd.

END TIME

The end time is explained in different ways. It is also indicated via wikipedia as an important role that something must have in a story. People are even talking about the final movement here, where "the movement" is of very great importance.

In my personal opinion, the movement of the story is indeed very important as well.

After all, the movement leads man to the goal.

And of course that real goal for me personally will always be REAL LOVE.

In short, the story game "Narrathon" by my acquaintance Ewald Theunisse also points very clearly to the importance of the final card.

The final card that will therefore also be able to carry an important degree of satisfaction as a closing sentence and with which one can really get into balance.

The end time, the end of times,

the last days of eschaton

is a representation of the last time period (the end) of all human history.

The doctrine of the end times is called eschatology.

Movements in which the end times play an important role in their theology are called end times movement.

The Abrahamic religions have a linear cosmology in which end-time scenarios consist of themes surrounding great upheavals and redemption.

In Judaism, the end times often refer to the final stretch of world history, in which the Jewish diaspora is gathered, the Messiah appears, the "world to come" comes, and the dead rise.

In Christianity, the end times often refer to the Great Tribulation, which precedes the Second Coming of Jesus.

In Islam, Judgment Day is preceded by the appearance of al-Mahdi.

Christianity

The word eschatos is used in the New Testament to indicate the end that will begin with the second coming of Jesus. Jesus promises his followers at his ascension that he will return, and then all suffering will be over. He will come to judge the living and the dead, say Christians in their creed. This refers to the words of Jesus when he speaks about the Day of Judgment.

The Bible book of Revelation describes a prophecy of John, which is interpreted by most churches as a prophecy of the end times.

Islam

Islam also has a strong belief in the end times.

Muslims believe that the Prophet Isa (Jesus) and/or the Mahdi, followers of the Prophet Muhammad, will return to earth at a time chosen by Allah. The Mahdi will stop all wars and an era of peace will begin.

In particular, the Shia Muslims strongly believe in the coming of the Mahdi, who will judge all persons on earth. They believe that only right-minded Muslims have a place in heaven. Sunnis, on the other hand, believe that only Allah can judge

The last day of the 13th baktun of the Mayan calendar (13.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 3 Kankin) is equated by a number of scholars with the Gregorian date December 21 or 23, 2012. In Judaism, the end times are usually referred to as the "end of days" (aḥarit ha-yamim, אחרית הימים), a phrase that appears several times in the Torah. The idea of a messianic age has a prominent place in Jewish thought and is seen as part of the end of days.

In Judaism, the primary textual source for belief in the End of Days and associated events is the Hebrew Bible.

Deuteronomy 28-31 states that the Jews will not be able to keep the laws of Moses in the Land of Israel and will therefore be exiled, but eventually redeemed. The books of the Hebrew prophets deal with the end of days.

In rabbinic literature, the rabbis elaborate these stories and explain the prophecies of the Hebrew Bible, together with the oral law and the (meaning of the) rabbinic traditions.

EINDTIJD

Natuurlijk hebben we via de Bijbel ook te maken met de eindtijd, en toch vind ik het niet zo heel leuk om daar heel veel en echt te diep mee bezig te zijn.

Soms wordt er heel veel over de eindtijd gesproken.

Ik vind het niet leuk om mijzelf echt te gaan verliezen in een tijd die nog moet komen.

Dat beeld mag nog wel een klein beetje open zijn van mij.

Toch ben ik meerdere mensen tegen gekomen die er echt van uitgaan dat alles al in volle gang zal zijn en alles eigenlijk al helemaal bekend zal zijn,

Het is dan dus het bericht dat de meeste mensen op aarde langzaam maar zeker totaal gehersenspoeld zullen worden en zelfs electronische chips krijgen ingespoten. Dit zou door de vooruistrevende techniek allemaal al mogelijk zijn,

Zelfs de Nederlandse Koningin Maxima zou hier op dit moment al mee bezig zijn.

Voorts zien mensen soms allemaal spoorlijnen die in aanbouw zouden zijn en die er voor moeten zorgen dat er (net als in de tweede wereldoorlog met de Joden, homo's en zigeuners is gebeurd) straks werkelijk nog veel meer mensen afgevoerd worden naar concentratiekampen.

Het lijkt soms alsof de oorlog al begonnen is en dat berichten sommige groeperingen dan ook.

En ja, ook ik schrik er dan soms heel erg van. Kort geleden las ik letterlijk staan: ER IS OORLOG - VOOR DE MENSEN DIE HET NOG NIET WISTEN

En omdat ik dus werkelijk iets met hun in verbinding stond en ik mijn vrouw in de Filippijnen maar niet kon bereiken dacht ik gelijk: Oh jeetje, het zal toch niet waar zijn dat de derde wereldoorlog werkelijk al is begonnen?

Een groot gevoel van ongerustheid overviel me toen.

Gelukkig bleek het dus helemaal niet waar te zijn.

END TIME

Of course we also have to deal with the end times through the Bible, and yet I don't really like to deal with it too much and really too deeply.

Sometimes there is a lot of talk about the end times.

I don't like to really lose myself in a time that is yet to come.

That image may still be a little open from me.

Yet I have come across several people who really assume that everything will already be in full swing and everything will actually be completely known,

So it is the message that most people on earth will slowly but surely be completely brainwashed and even be injected with electronic chips. This would already be possible thanks to advanced technology,

Even the Dutch Queen Maxima is said to be working on this at the moment.

Furthermore, people sometimes see all kinds of railway lines that are supposed to be under construction and that should ensure that (just as happened with the Jews, gays and gypsies in the Second World War) many more people will soon be deported to concentration camps.

It sometimes seems as if the war has already started and some groups report that.

And yes, it scares me sometimes too. Recently I literally read: THERE IS WAR - FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT KNOW IT YET

And because I really had something to do with them and I couldn't reach my wife in the Philippines, I immediately thought: Oh dear, it can't be true that the third world war has really started already?

A great sense of anxiety came over me then.
Fortunately, it turned out not to be true at all.

De Heilige Geest staat voor mij als een rots in de branding. De steen als de betekenis van discipel Petrus die als zijn nauw verwante volger door het vuur wil gaan. En die de sleutel van de Heilige poort met zich mee mocht dragen.

Rots in de branding. Jezus had een discipel genaamd Simon. Deze gaf Hij een nieuwe naam: Petrus (van het Griekse πέτρα, petra, rots).

Handoplegging.

Onze handen op Christus leggen als "het brandoffer" is niet alleen een kwestie van identificatie, het is een kwestie van verzoening.

Het psalm 73 raakt een ieder die de Heilige Geest zal volgen en hier voor zal moeten lijden. Jet verteld over slechte mensen die zo gelukkig lijken en waar je als mens jaloers op kunt worden, Maar ook lees je hoe ze je uiterlijk kunnen bedriegen, ze je bedriegen met geweld en je werkelijk pijn zullen doen met hun woorden en dit graag in het geheim allemaal willen doen.

En het lijkt vaak dat die mensen steeds alleen maar rijker worden en nooit geen zorgen zullen hebben. Vele malen beter is natuurlijk om te gaan leven naar de werkelijke liefde van God, Jezus Christus of de Heilige Geest en Hem als je allergrootste rijkdom aan te gaan nemen.

Laying on of hands.

Laying our hands on Christ as "the burnt offering" is not just a matter of identification, it is a matter of atonement.

Psalm 73 touches all who will follow the Holy Spirit and suffer for it. Jet verte;d about bad people who seem so happy and whom you can become jealous of as a human being, But you also read how they can deceive your appearance, they deceive you with violence and will really hurt you with their words and like to do this in want to do the secret all.

And it often seems that those people just keep getting richer and will never have no worries. It is of course much better to start living according to the real love of God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit and to accept Him as your greatest wealth.

De Heilige Geest voert Gods hoofddoelstelling uit om een vredesrelatie tussen mensen en God en tussen de mensen op te bouwen. De Heilige Geest wordt binnen het christendom beschouwd als de Geest van God. Samen met God de Vader en de Zoon van God vormt de Heilige Geest de Heilige Drie-eenheid. Als het in de Bijbel om de Heilige Geest gaat worden daar soms ook andere benamingen voor gebruikt zoals de Geest des He(e)ren/van de Heer of kortweg de Geest.

Hoewel de Heilige Geest onder christenen vooral geassocieerd wordt met het Nieuwe Testament, is er in het Oude Testament ook op meerdere plaatsen sprake van de Geest van God. De Geest wordt in dat deel van de Bijbel steevast in verband gebracht met vooraanstaande personen uit het volk van Israël, zoals profeten en rechters. Enkele Bijbelgedeeltes waarin deze Geest in het Oude Testament voorkomen, zijn:

Genesis 1:2 - De aarde was nog woest en leeg, en duisternis lag over de oervloed,
maar Gods geest zweefde over het water.

(Dit kan geïnterpreteerd worden als "de Heilige Geest was er al vóór de schepping van de wereld").

Rechters 13:25 - Tussen Sora en Estaol, waar de Danieten hun tenten hadden opgeslagen,
werd hij (d.i. Simson) voor het eerst door de geest van de Heer tot daden aangezet.
(De Heilige Geest spoorde Simson blijkbaar aan om de dingen te gaan doen waarvoor hij geroepen was.)

Spreuken 1:23 - 'Keert u tot Mijn bestraffing; ziet,
Ik zal Mijn Geest ulieden overvloediglijk uitstorten;
Ik zal Mijn woorden u bekend maken.'

In het Nieuwe Testament blijft de hulp van de Heilige Geest niet langer voorbehouden aan joodse vooraanstaanden.

Jezus voorspelde in het evangelie volgens Johannes (16:7-15) dat de Heilige Geest over zijn volgelingen zou komen nadat Hijzelf vertrokken was.

Dan zal ik de Vader vragen jullie een andere pleitbezorger te geven, die altijd bij je zal zijn: de Geest van de waarheid.
De wereld kan hem niet ontvangen, want ze ziet hem niet en kent hem niet.
Jullie kennen hem wel, want hij woont in jullie en zal in jullie blijven. (Johannes 14:16-17).

Jezus legt daarbij uit dat Zijn Geest de wereld zal overtuigen van zonde, gerechtigheid en oordeel.

Hierover ontstaat onduidelijkheid, omdat vaak over het woord 'wereld' heen gelezen wordt.

Volgens de christelijke uitleg zijn de zonden eenmaal weggenomen als het plaatsvervangende offer van Jezus door God aanvaard wordt.
Daarna overtuigt zijn Geest o.a. van die ontvangen gerechtigheid (zie daarover Romeinen 8) en van het zoonschap (het behoren bij God, Galaten 4:6).
Het inwonen van de Heilige Geest in de gelovige geldt ook als een onderpand,
namelijk dat de gelovige eens het eeuwig leven zal krijgen (2 Korintiërs 5:4-5).

Deze "helper" zou Jezus' volgelingen overal van op de hoogte stellen wat Jezus hen tijdens zijn leven op aarde had verteld, en zou hen tevens het nodige leren.
Volgens Handelingen 2 (tien dagen na de Hemelvaart van Jezus) wordt tijdens het joodse Wekenfeest de Heilige Geest uitgestort over alle gelovigen. Christenen vieren hetzelfde met Pinksteren: er wordt gevierd dat de Heilige Geest zich in de vorm van vurige tongen over de hoofden de aanwezigen verdeelde en dat ze toen in tongen gesproken hebben. Aan de Heilige Geest worden verschillende functies toegedicht in de Bijbel, het leven van christenen en/of de kerk.
Deze zijn:
De overtuiging van zonde.
De Heilige Geest overtuigt personen van de zondigheid van hun handelen,
maar ook van hun positie van zondaren in relatie tot God.

Bekering
De Heilige Geest speelt een essentiële rol in de bekering van personen tot het christelijk geloof.
De nieuwe gelovige wordt wedergeboren door de Geest.
De Heilige Geest maakt bekwaam.
De Heilige Geest rust de individuele gelovigen toe om een rechtvaardig en gelovig leven te leiden.
Als de trooster, of Parakleet, die bemiddelt, steunt,
en pleit voor de individuele gelovige bij God, met name in tijden van vervolging of berechtiging.
Inspirator en uitlegger van de Bijbel.
De Heilige Geest heeft de Bijbelschrijvers geïnspireerd
en helpt de individuele gelovigen en de kerk bij de interpretatie van de tekst.

De Heilige Geest als scheppende kracht.
De Geest was betrokken bij de schepping en geeft de mens leven. Rust personen toe voor specifieke werkzaamheden.

Verschillende keren in de Bijbel ontvangen personen specifieke bekwaamheden,
zoals artistieke handvaardigheid.

I read in the table of contents of my very beloved and very special "children's bible" the reference to Legion.

The Holy Spirit carries out God's main purpose of building a relationship of peace between people and God and between people. The Holy Spirit is regarded in Christianity as the Spirit of God. Together with God the Father and the Son of God, the Holy Spirit forms the Holy Trinity. When it comes to the Holy Spirit in the Bible, other names are sometimes used for it, such as the Spirit of the Lord/of the Lord or simply the Spirit.

Although the Holy Spirit is mainly associated with the New Testament among Christians, the Spirit of God is also mentioned in several places in the Old Testament. In that part of the Bible, the Spirit is invariably associated with prominent people from the people of Israel, such as prophets and judges. Some Bible passages where this Spirit appears in the Old Testament are:

Genesis 1:2 - The earth was still formless and empty, and darkness was over the deep,
but God's spirit hovered over the water.

(This can be interpreted as "the Holy Spirit was there before the creation of the world").

Judges 13:25 - Between Sorah and Estaol, where the Danites pitched their tents,
he (i.e. Samson) was first moved to action by the spirit of the Lord.
(The Holy Ghost apparently urged Samson to do the things he was called to do.)

Proverbs 1:23 - 'Turn to My rebuke; sees,
I will pour out My Spirit upon you abundantly;
I will make My words known to you.'

In the New Testament, the help of the Holy Spirit is no longer reserved for Jewish eminents.

Jesus predicted in the Gospel of John (16:7-15) that the Holy Spirit would come upon His followers after He Himself had departed.

Then I will ask the Father to give you another advocate who will always be with you: the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot receive him, for it neither sees nor knows him.
You know him well, for he lives in you and will remain in you. (John 14:16-17).

Jesus explains that His Spirit will convince the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.

There is a lack of clarity about this, because the word 'world' is often overlooked.

According to the Christian interpretation, once the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus is accepted by God, sins are taken away.
Then his Spirit convinces, among other things, of that righteousness received (see Romans 8 about this) and of sonship (belonging to God, Galatians 4:6).
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer is also a pledge,
namely, that the believer will one day receive eternal life (2 Corinthians 5:4-5).

This "helper" would inform Jesus' followers of everything Jesus had told them during his life on earth, and would also teach them the necessary things.
According to Acts 2 (ten days after the Ascension of Jesus), the Holy Spirit is poured out on all believers during the Jewish Feast of Weeks. Christians celebrate the same thing at Pentecost: it is celebrated that the Holy Spirit distributed itself in the form of fiery tongues over the heads of those present and that they then spoke in tongues. Various functions are attributed to the Holy Spirit in the Bible, the life of Christians and/or the church.

These are:
The conviction of sin.
The Holy Spirit convicts persons of the sinfulness of their actions,
but also of their position of sinners in relation to God.

Repentance
The Holy Spirit plays an essential role in the conversion of individuals to the Christian faith.
The new believer is born again by the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit qualifies.
The Holy Spirit equips individual believers to live a righteous and faithful life.
If the comforter, or Paraclete, who intercedes, supports,
and pleads for the individual believer before God, especially in times of persecution or trial.
Inspiration and interpreter of the Bible.
The Holy Spirit inspired the Bible writers
and assists individual believers and the Church in the interpretation of the text.
The Holy Spirit as a creative force.
The Spirit was involved in creation and gives man life. Equip people for specific tasks.

Several times in the Bible, individuals receive specific abilities,
such as artistic handicraft.

in de Bijbel kun je lezen over Simson:

Het Bijbelse verhaal van Simson vertelt over een krijger met supernatuurlijke kracht. Simson ontdekte deze kracht toen hij een leeuw tegenkwam en deze doodde met zijn blote vuisten. Later vermoordde hij eigenhandig duizend Filistijnen, waarna hij verleid werd door de Filistijnse vrouw Delila. Dit verhaal gaat dus over een vrouw die Delila heet en die een bijzondere grote kracht van de man Simson probeert af te pakken. Zij lokte hem in de val en knipte in de nacht zijn haar eraf, waardoor Simson zijn krachten verloor.Simson werd toen dus door de Filistijnen gevangen genomen, zijn ogen werden uitgestoken en hij werd in Gaza aan het werk gezet om een molen te draaien.

Een tijd later werd hij naar de tempel van Dagan gebracht om de massa te vermaken. Hij leunde tegen een pilaar en vroeg God om één laatste keer zijn kracht terug te krijgen. Die kreeg hij, waarna Simson de tempel liet instortten en samen met duizenden Filistijnen stierf.

Maar letterlijk vertelt staat dit verhaal dus vermeld in de Bijbel in : Het begint bij de geboorte van Simson en dat vind je in het boek Rechters 13

Maar het verhaal met Delila staat beschreven in Rechters16:4-22

Ik lees voor uit:

Simson en Delila

De Filistijnen de willen Simson grijpen.

Korte tijd later werd Simson verliefd op een vrouw die in het Sorek-dal woonde. Ze heette Delila.

De bestuurders van de Filistijnse steden gingen naar Delila. Ze zeiden tegen haar: "Probeer van Simson te weten te komen waardoor hij zo sterk is. En ook hoe we hem zo kunnen vastbinden dat hij niet meer kan loskomen. Dan krijg je van ons allemaal €1100 zilverstukken."

Delilah bind Samson Simson vast

Toen zei Delilah zei tegen Simson: "Vertel me toch hoe het komt dat jij zo sterk bent. Hoe kun jij zo vastgebonden worden dat je niet meer los komt kunt komen?"

Simson antwoordde:"Als ik vastgebonden word met zeven sterke koorden, dan ben ik net zo zwak als ieder ander mens."

De filistijnse bestuurders gaven delila 7 sterke koorden. Toen Simson sliep bond ze hem daarmee vast.

Intussen hadden een paar Filistijnen zich in één van de kamers van Delila's huis verstopt.

Toen riep Delila: "Simson, daar komen de Filistijnen!" Maar Simson trok de koordon kapot alsof het dunne touwtjes waren. Dus wisten de Felistijnen nog niet waardoor Simson zo sterk was.

Delila bindt Simson weer vast.

Delila zei tegen Simson: "Je bent een bedrieger Je hebt tegen me gelogen! Vertel me toch waarmee je vastgebonden moet worden."

Simson zei: "Als ik stevig vastgebonden wordt met nieuwe touwen die nog nooit gebruikt zijn, dan ben ik net zo zwak als ieder ander mens."

Delila nam nieuwe touwen en bond de armen van Simson vast. Intussen hadden een paar Filistijnen tijden zich in één van de kamers van het huis verstopt. Toen riep Delila: "Simson daar komen de Filistijnen!" Maar Simson trok de touwen kapot alsof het draadjes waren.

Delila maakt Simson nog één keer vast

Delila zei tegen Simson: "Je bent een bedrieger! Je liegt steeds tegen mij! Vertel me toch waarmee je vastgebonden moet worden."

Simson zei: "Je moet mijn lange haren vast weven in het kleed dat je aan het weven bent."

Toen Simson in slaap gevallen was deed Delila dat. Het haar van Simson zat helemaal vast.

Toen riep ze:" Simson daar komen de Filistijnen!" Simson werd wakker en rukte zich in één keer los.

Simson vertelt zijn geheim aan Delila

Toen zei Delilah:"Hoe kun je zeggen dat je van mij houdt? Je bent niet eerlijk tegen me. Je hebt me al drie keer bedrogen. Want je vertelt me niet waardoor je zo sterk bent."

Elke dag zei ze zulke dingen tegen Simson. Zo wilde Delila Simson dwingen om zijn geheim aan haar te vertellen. Op het laatst kon Simson er niet meer tegen. Hij zei:"Ik mag mijn haar nooit laten afknippen, want ik ben een nazireeër. Ik dien God op een speciale manier, al vanaf mijn geboorte. Als ik mijn haar laat afknippen dan verdwijnt mijn kracht. Dan ben ik net zo zwak als ieder andere mens.

Delila knipt Simsons haar af.

Delila begreep dat Simson deze keer echt zijn geheim vertelt had. Ze stuurde iemand naar de Filistijnse bestuurders met de volgende boodschap: "Jullie moeten nu zelf komen. Want Simson heeft zijn geheim verteld," De bestuurders gingen direct naar Delila toe en ze hadden de zilverstukken voor haar bij zich. Toen liet Delila Simson op haar knieën in slaap vallen. Daarna riep zij één van de bestuurders erbij en ze knipte het lange haar van Simson af. Zo kreeg ze Simson in haar macht. En hij verloor al zijn kracht. Delila riep:"Simson daar komen de Filistijnen!" Simson werd wakker. Hij wilde opspringen en zich weer losrukken net als de vorige keren. Maar hij wist niet dat de heer hem in de steek gelaten had.

Simson komt in de gevangenis.

De Filistijnen grepen Simson vast, en ze staken zijn ogen uit. Ze brachten hem naar de stad Gaza. Daar bonden ze hem vast met twee bronzen kettingen. In de gevangenis moest hij het graan malen. Maar vanaf dat moment dat Simson haar afgeknipt was begon het ook weer te groeien.

De Filistijnen vieren feest.

De Filistijnse bestuurders kwamen bij elkaar voor een groot offerfeest. Ze brachten offers aan hun god Dagon. Ze zeiden:"Dagon heeft onze vijand Simson in onze macht gegeven." Het volk zag Simson en ze juichten voor hun god. Ze zeiden:"Simson heeft ons land verwoest en veel van onze mensen gedood. Maar onze god heeft hem in zijn onze macht gegeven.

Simson wordt naar de tempel gebracht

Toen iedereen in een vrolijke stemming was, zeiden ze: "Laten we Simson hierheen halen, dan kunnen we lachen." Ze haalden Simson uit de gevangenis en ze lachten hem uit. Ze zetten hem tussen de zuilen van de tempel.

Simson zei tegen de jongen die hem bewaakte: "Laat me eens los. Ik wil de zuilen voelen die het dak van de tempel dragen. Laat me tegen die zuilen leunen."

De Tempel was vol mannen en vrouwen. Ook de bestuurders van de Filistijnse steden waren er. En op het dak waren ook nog ongeveer 3000 mannen en vrouwen. Ze keken allemaal naar Simson en lachten hem uit.

Simson en de Filistijnen sterven

Toen bad Simson tot de Heer. Hij zei:"Heer mijn God, denk toch aan mij. Maak me nog een keer sterk. Dan kan ik de Filistijnen straffen omdat ze mijn ogen uitgestoken hebben."

Simson pakte de twee middelste zuilen die het dak van de Tempel droegen. Hij sterkte zich uit, met zijn rechterhand tegen de ene zuil en met zijn linkerhand tegen de andere zuil. Simson riep:"Laat mij sterven met de Filistijnen!" Toen duwde hij zo hard als hij kon, en de tempel stortte in. De Filistijnse betuurders en alle andere mensen die daar waren kwamen onder het puin terecht.

Zo doodde Simson bij zijn dood meer mensen den tijdens zijn hele leven.

De begrafenis van Simson

De broers van Simson kwamen met hun hele familie naar Gaza om het lichaam van Simson op te halen. Ze begroeven hem tussen Sora en Estaol, op de plaats waar zijn vader Manoach begraven was. Simson was 20 jaar de leider van de israëlieten geweest

But in the Bible you read:

The biblical story of Samson tells of a warrior with supernatural strength. Samson discovered this power when he encountered a lion and killed it with his bare fists. Later he single-handedly killed a thousand Philistines, after which he was seduced by the Philistine woman Delilah. So this story is about a woman named Delilah who tries to take a special great power from the man Samson. She trapped him and cut off his hair in the night, causing Samson to lose his strength. Samson was then captured by the Philistines, his eyes were gouged out, and he was put to work in Gaza turning a mill.

Some time later, he was taken to Dagan's temple to entertain the masses. He leaned against a pillar and asked God to restore his strength one last time. He got it, after which Samson collapsed the temple and died along with thousands of Philistines.

But this story is literally told in the Bible: It starts with the birth of Samson and you will find that in the book of Judges 13

But the story with Delilah is described in Judges 16:4-22

Samson and Delilah

The Philistines want to seize Samson.

A short time later, Samson fell in love with a woman who lived in the Sorek Valley. Her name was Delilah.

The rulers of the Philistine cities went to Delilah. They said to her, "Try to find out from Samson why he is so strong. And also how we can tie him up so that he cannot come loose. Then each of us will give you €1,100 silver pieces."

Delilah tie up Samson

Then Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me how it is that you are so strong. How can you be so bound that you cannot get loose?"

Samson replied, "If I am bound with seven strong cords, then I am as weak as any other man."

The Philistine rulers gave Delilah 7 strong cords. When Samson slept she bound him with it.

Meanwhile, some Philistines hid in one of the rooms of Delilah's house.

Then Delilah cried, "Samson, here come the Philistines!" But Samson tore the cordon as if they were thin strings. So the Felistines did not yet know what made Samson so strong.

Delilah ties Samson up again.

Delilah said to Samson, "You are an impostor. You have lied to me! Tell me what you must be tied up with."

Samson said, "If I am bound tightly with new ropes that have never been used, then I am as weak as any other man."

Delilah took new ropes and bound Samson's arms. Meanwhile, some Philistines had been hiding in one of the rooms of the house for ages. Then Delilah cried, "Samson, here come the Philistines!" But Samson broke the ropes as if they were threads.

Delilah fastens Samson one more time

Delilah said to Samson, "You are a deceiver! You lie to me all the time! Tell me what you must be tied up with."

Samson said, "You must weave my long hair into the cloth you are weaving."

When Samson fell asleep, Delilah did so. Samson's hair was completely stuck.

Samson tells his secret to Delilah

Then Delilah said, "How can you say that you love me? You are not honest with me. You have already cheated on me three times. Because you don't tell me why you are so strong."

Every day she said such things to Samson. Thus Delilah wanted to force Samson to tell her his secret. At last Samson could take it no more. He said, "I must never have my hair cut because I am a Nazirite. I have served God in a special way since I was born. If I cut my hair, my strength will disappear. Then I will be as weak as anyone else. other human.

Delilah cuts Samson's hair.

Delilah understood that this time Samson had really told his secret. She sent to the Philistine rulers with the following message: "Now you must come yourselves. For Samson has told his secret." Samson goes to prison.

The Philistines seized Samson and gouged out his eyes. They took him to the city of Gaza. There they bound him with two bronze chains. In prison he had to grind the grain. But from the moment that Samson's hair was cut off, it also started to grow again.

The Philistines celebrate.

The Philistine rulers gathered for a great feast of sacrifice. They offered sacrifices to their god Dagon. They said, "Dagon has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand." The people saw Samson and shouted for their god. They said, "Samson has destroyed our land and killed many of our people. But our god has given him into our power.

Samson is taken to the temple

When everyone was in a merry mood, they said, "Let's get Samson here, and we can laugh." They took Samson out of prison and they laughed at him. They put him between the pillars of the temple.

Samson said to the boy guarding him, "Let go of me. I want to feel the pillars that support the roof of the temple. Let me lean against those pillars." The Temple was full of men and women. There were also the rulers of the Philistine cities. And on the roof were also about 3000 men and women. They all looked at Samson and laughed at him.

Samson and the Philistines die

Then Samson prayed to the Lord. He said, "Lord my God, remember me. Make me strong once more, so that I can punish the Philistines for putting out my eyes."

Samson took the two middle pillars that supported the roof of the Temple. He stretched out with his right hand against one pillar and with his left hand against the other pillar. Samson cried, "Let me die with the Philistines!" Then he pushed as hard as he could, and the temple collapsed. The Philistine administrators and all the other people who were there fell under the rubble.

Thus Samson killed more people at his death than during his lifetime.

Samson's burial

Samson's brothers came to Gaza with their entire family to collect Samson's body. They buried him between Sorah and Estaol, in the place where his father Manoah was buried. Samson had been leader of the Israelites for 20 years.

Symbolen en metaforen
In de Bijbel worden verschillende metaforen en symbolen aangeduid om de Heilige Geest te beschrijven:

Water.

Alle gelovigen zijn gedoopt in één Geest en door hem doordrenkt.

De Geest wordt ook aangeduid als het levende water.
De zalving.

De zalving met olie werd als symbool gezien als het ontvangen van de Heilige Geest. In het Oude Testament werden koningen gezalfd met olie. Dit symboliseerde het ontvangen van de Geest.
Vuur.

Johannes de Doper zegt tegen zijn toehoorders dat zij gedoopt zullen worden met de Heilige Geest en met vuur.

Op de Pinksterdag hebben de discipelen vuurtongen op hun hoofden, dat gezien wordt als het ontvangen van de Heilige Geest.
Een duif.

Toen Christus de Heilige Geest ontving daalde er een duif op hem neer.
De wind. Verschillende keren in de Bijbel gaat een handeling en/of de komst van de Heilige Geest gepaard met het opsteken van een wind.

Ook Jezus zelf maakt een vergelijking tussen de Heilige Geest en de wind.
De Heilige Geest in relatie tot Jezus
Van de Heilige Geest wordt ook geloofd dat hij in het leven van Jezus Christus werkzaam was om hem te helpen bij zijn werk op aarde. De Heilige Geest speelde een rol in:

De geboorte van Jezus. Volgens de Evangeliën werd Jezus niet op een natuurlijke manier verwekt, maar door de Heilige Geest. Hij werd geboren uit de maagd Maria. De Apostolische geloofsbelijdenis zegt dat Jezus "ontvangen" is van de Heilige Geest.
Het ontvangen van zijn roeping bij zijn doop.
Hem toerusten in zijn werk. Jezus' werk ving aan nadat hij gedoopt was.

In de Evangeliën wordt beschreven dat er een duif op Jezus neerdaalde waardoor deze in staat was zijn werk te doen.
Pinksteren.

Tijdens het pinksterfeest wordt herdacht dat de Heilige Geest,

de derde Persoon van de Allerheiligste Drie-eenheid, neerdaalde uit de hemel op de apostelen en andere aanwezige gelovigen.
De Heilige Geest en zijn rol in het christendom
Bekering
Binnen het christendom wordt geloofd dat de Heilige Geest een belangrijke rol speelt in het proces in aanloop naar het moment dat men het christelijk geloof gaat aanhangen.

Mensen kunnen weliswaar overtuigd worden door argumenten en/of op basis van het gevoel besluiten christen te worden,

maar uiteindelijk is de Heilige Geest die hen daar toe aan zet.

In de christelijke traditie wordt geloofd dat wanneer iemand tot het geloof komt hij/zij ook de Heilige Geest ontvangt die hem/haar helpt een christelijk leven te leiden.

Gaven van de Geest

Christenen geloven in Gaven van de Geest. \Dit zijn vaardigheden om effectief als individuele gelovigen en als gelovige gemeenschap te functioneren. Deze gaven worden genoemd in de brieven van de apostel Paulus. De meest bekende lijst komt voor in 1 Korintiërs 12 en 14, maar ook in Romeinen 16:6-8 en Efeziërs 4:11 spreekt Paulus over de gaven.

Binnen de christelijke traditie zijn deze gaven met name de laatste eeuw opnieuw in de aandacht komen te staan, vooral door de pinksterbeweging en de charismatische beweging. Binnen de theologie zijn er verschillende discussieonderwerpen rondom de gaven van de Geest. Een eerste vraag die wordt gesteld wat Paulus precies bedoelde als hij het daar over had.

Een ander discussiepunt is of de gaven van de geest alleen voor de eerste kerk bedoeld was, of ook voor gelovigen die later leefden.

Verder zijn er verschillende theologen geweest die geprobeerd hebben de verschillende gaven in te delen naar verschillende categorieën, terwijl andere daar weer fel tegenstander van zijn.

Vrucht van de Geest

Christenen geloven dat zij de Vrucht van de Geest ontvangen door zijn toedoen. Deze vrucht wordt in Galaten 5:22-23 genoemd.

Het gaat daarbij om liefde, vreugde, vrede, geduld, vriendelijkheid, goedheid, geloof, zachtmoedigheid en zelfbeheersing (of: matigheid). De Rooms-Katholieke Kerk heeft deze lijst uitgebreid met gulheid, bescheidenheid en kuisheid.

Zonde tegen de Heilige Geest
In drie evangeliën deelt Jezus mee dat wie tegen de Heilige Geest zondigt of lastert nooit en te nimmer meer vergeving hiervan kan ontvangen, noch tijdens het leven noch na de dood.

Dit naar aanleiding van de beschuldiging van de Farizeeën en schriftgeleerden dat Jezus boze geesten uitwierp door middel van Beëlzebul, dat wil zeggen door de duivel zelf.

In de Brief aan de Hebreeën wordt meegedeeld dat wie christen is geworden, vervuld is geraakt met de Heilige Geest en van de hemel heeft 'geproefd' en daarna van het geloof is afgevallen, niet opnieuw tot het geloof kan worden gebracht, hetgeen lijkt op de zonde tegen de Heilige Geest.

Hernieuwde belangstelling
Alhoewel de Heilige Geest nooit helemaal uit beeld is geraakt binnen het christendom, is er een hernieuwde belangstelling sinds het einde van de 19e eeuw, met name in Engeland en Beieren (Duitsland).

Aan het begin van de 20e eeuw aan de westkust van de Verenigde Staten begon men weer oog te krijgen voor een volledige vervulling met de Heilige Geest die ook wel de doop in Heilige Geest wordt genoemd. In eerste instantie was dit hoofdzakelijk het exclusieve domein van het nieuwe kerkgenootschap van de pinkstergemeenten maar van lieverlee breidde dit zich via de zogeheten charismatische beweging ook uit naar de al langer bestaande kerken zoals allerlei andere protestantse denominaties en de Rooms-Katholieke Kerk.

Een specifieke stroming met belangstelling voor de Heilige Geest zijn de apostolische gemeenten. Deze gemeenten ontstonden in Engeland, na gebedsdiensten van kerkgangers in de presbyteriaanse Kerk en de Kerk van Engeland, die een vernieuwde uitstorting van de Heilige Geest afsmeekten. Op den duur is bij deze gebedsdiensten de gave van profetie tot uiting gekomen. Uiteindelijk is uit deze groepen gelovigen de Katholiek Apostolische Kerk ontstaan. Deze kerk bestaat feitelijk alleen nog maar in naam, maar zowel de Hersteld Apostolische Zendingkerk, alsook de Hersteld Apostolische Zendinggemeente, zijn een directe dochterkerk die ervan overtuigd zijn dat zij nog steeds de gaven van de Heilige Geest, zoals in de Bijbel beschreven, hebben.

In jodendom, islam en manicheïsme
In het jodendom
Roeach Hakodesj in het jodendom is een figuurlijke manier om over God te spreken of over Goddelijke inspiratie die mensen genoten of genieten (als Roeach Hakodesj op iemand rust). De christelijke driedeling van God wordt gezien als veelgodendom, omdat God volgens het jodendom één is en geen aparte geest of kinderen heeft.

In de islam
Ook binnen de islam is er sprake van een heilige geest, de Roeh Al-Qoedoes Hier is sprake van het versterken van verschillende profeten, zoals Isa (Jezus), door God met de heilige geest.

In Soera De Profeten 91 is sprake van het inblazen van de geest in Maryam (Maria). In de islamitische traditie wordt de heilige geest gebruikt voor de engel Djibrail (Gabriël).

In het manicheïsme
Mani, de stichter van het manicheïsme, beschouwde zichzelf als de Heilige Geest die troost brengt en wiens komst door Jezus was voorspeld. De hierna volgende passage uit het Johannes 16:12-15 waarin Jezus het over de Heilige Geest heeft, vatte hij op als van toepassing op hemzelf:

"Nog veel heb ik u te zeggen, maar gij kunt het nog niet dragen.

Doch wanneer Hij komt, de Geest der Waarheid, zal Hij u wijzen de weg tot de volle waarheid. Want Hij zal niet uit zichzelf spreken, maar wat Hij hoort zal Hij spreken en het komende zal Hij u verkondigen.

Hij zal mij openbaren, want uit mijn wezen zal Hij nemen wat Hij u verkondigen zal. Alles wat de Vader in zich heeft, leeft in mij.

Daarom heb ik u gezegd: uit mijn wezen neemt de Geest wat Hij u verkondigen zal." Het manicheïsme werd overigens later als ketterse leer veroordeeld.

Symbols and metaphors
Various metaphors and symbols are used in the Bible to describe the Holy Spirit:

Water.

All believers are baptized in one Spirit and permeated by him.

The Spirit is also referred to as the living water.
The anointing.

The anointing with oil was seen as a symbol of receiving the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, kings were anointed with oil. This symbolized receiving the Spirit.
Firework.

John the Baptist tells his listeners that they will be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

The Holy Spirit in relation to Jesus

The Holy Spirit and Its Role in Christianity
Repentance
Within Christianity, it is believed that the Holy Spirit plays an important role in the process leading up to the moment one comes to adhere to the Christian faith.

Although people can be convinced by arguments and/or decide to become a Christian on the basis of feeling,

but in the end it is the Holy Spirit who moves them to do so.

In the Christian tradition it is believed that when someone comes to faith, he/she also receives the Holy Spirit who helps him/her to live a Christian life.

Gifts of the Spirit

Christians believe in Gifts of the Spirit. These are skills to function effectively as individual believers and as a community of believers. These gifts are mentioned in the letters of the apostle Paul. The most famous list appears in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, but Paul also speaks of the gifts in Romans 16:6-8 and Ephesians 4:11.

Within the Christian tradition, these gifts have come back to prominence, particularly in the last century, especially through the Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements. Within theology there are various topics of discussion surrounding the gifts of the Spirit. A first question that is asked what exactly Paul meant when he talked about it.

Another point of discussion is whether the gifts of the spirit were intended only for the early church, or also for believers who lived later.

Furthermore, there have been several theologians who have tried to classify the various gifts into different categories, while others are fiercely opposed to this.

Fruit of the Spirit

Christians believe that they receive the Fruit of the Spirit through him.

This fruit is mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23.

Over time, these prayer services manifested the gift of prophecy. Ultimately, the Catholic Apostolic Church emerged from these groups of believers.

This church actually only exists in name, but both the Restored Apostolic Mission Church and the Restored Apostolic Mission Church are direct daughter churches that are convinced that they still have the gifts of the Holy Spirit as described in the Bible.

In Judaism, Islam and Manichaeism
In Judaism

Therefore I said to you, Out of my being the Spirit receives that which He shall declare to you." Manichaeism was later condemned as a heretical doctrine.
